Jodrell Construction undertook a comprehensive adaptation of a 1920s, four-bedroom detached property to create a safe and accessible environment for a young girl with specialist needs. The entire home was refurbished to accommodate her requirements, including widening doorways for wheelchair access and raising external levels to ensure smooth access to outdoor areas and the driveway.
Key adaptations included the installation of a hoisting system that enables seamless movement between the family living room, therapy room, and an adapted bathroom. A full-coverage H-frame hoist was installed in the client’s bedroom to facilitate safe transfers between her wheelchair and specialised equipment.
The accessible bathroom was equipped with a rise-and-fall sensory bath, rise and fall basin, and rise and fall changing plinth to meet her daily care needs. To enhance comfort and convenience, underfloor heating was installed in the therapy room, and air conditioning was added to both the adapted bedroom and therapy room to maintain a consistent and comfortable temperature, essential for the client's wellbeing.
Additionally, a Gartrec lift was fitted, allowing easy access between the downstairs and upstairs areas, ensuring our young client can move freely and safely throughout her home. This thoughtful and extensive adaptation has provided her and her family with a home that supports her needs while allowing her to enjoy life with greater ease and comfort.
